Biography
For over 20 years, Solange dedicated her legal career to protecting the rights of children with disabilities and ensuring they have access to the education they deserve. She has always balanced deep legal expertise with a collaborative, compassionate approach — recognizing that every case is ultimately about a child’s future.
Solange began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx, where she presented cases before the grand jury and investigated and prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases, honed courtroom skills, and learned to advocate fearlessly — skills that continue to shape her work today.
Solange went on to spend over a decade at the New York City Department of Education’s Office of General Counsel, where she served as Managing Attorney for the Special Education Litigation Unit. Solange was charged with expanding the litigation unit for the first time to meet growing demands, ultimately leading the hiring and management of a team of 70 legal and administrative professionals. During her tenure, she litigated numerous complex special education cases, including high-profile matters, negotiated settlements, partnered with policy leaders and stakeholders to align legal strategy with educational priorities, and was responsible for training legal and educational staff on compliance and best practices. These efforts shaped policy and improved outcomes for children with disabilities citywide.
Most recently, Solange served as Director of Tuition & Counsel for SINAI Schools, a network of accredited special education schools widely recognized as a leader in serving children with disabilities. For eight years, she advised senior management and educational leadership on legal and compliance matters, collaborated with parents and their special education attorneys, and monitored education-related policies to develop best practices. She oversaw litigation, reviewed and approved educational and legal documents, prepared staff for testimony at impartial hearings and IEP meetings, and organized training sessions to strengthen compliance and advocacy across the schools. Her work also included creating and maintaining processes for record retention, contract management, and subpoena compliance — giving deep insight into the operational side of special education programs and how to ensure they serve the needs of each child.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Solange comes from a family deeply rooted in education and student support — from teachers and special educators to school counselors, social workers, therapists and administrators. Growing up in this environment gave Solange a profound respect for the work educators and support staff do every day and shaped her commitment to advocating for children with disabilities. Today, Solange is blessed to share her life with her supportive husband, two beautiful children, and dog, Ruthie.
Admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, Solange brings not only legal knowledge gained over more than two decades, but also a deep understanding of the needs of children with disabilities. Solange believes that every child is entitled to a meaningful, appropriate education — every time — and is committed to ensuring that the law works to make that promise a reality.
